Final Exam Questions

1. Should government be responsible for keeping consumers safe?

I beleive that everybody is able to take care about itself, which means that everybody is aware about the different dangers of consuming. In fact, the government maight not have the hundred percent responsability for taking consumers safe, because it (the government) cannot control everything.. But on the other hand, I agree with fact that too often, some mad businessmen, abuse their consumers, rising the prices too much, and killing the market ! This is why, this is for me an real "ethical" question!!

4. Should individuals be free to choose risky behaviour if they want to ? Explain.

As I said in my previous question, each individual is able to be responsible, and by this fact, to take some risks ! Risks are a part of the "sale game", which means that if people don't take risks, the business will be died ! Actually, it's thanks to people that the business is still present, because more you take risks, more you make the economy growing !
Lecture project

On May 2nd, I went to the public lecture presented to the Architecture Museum, about the Urbanization in the Coutryside of China. I went there with Zihy (I don'yt know if the spelling is correct), and I really enjoy to attend there. This lecture was very interested, ad very easy to follow.. The note taking was also not too difficult thanks to the different trainings did in class. I learnt a lot, and I think that everybody saw that during my own presentation in front of you. This exercise was very useful for now, but I'm sure for the rest of my student life also !
Improving Academic Performance

For me, the best ways to improve the academic performances are "the night", and to plan everything by advance. For some people (like me), the night is very useful to find my concentration and my peace, in order to come up with a good work.. I don't know why, but even if I finish school early, I cannot go on my desk, and start to work. This is why, I always start my homework very late, and during long hours ! My concentration during this period is to the maximum, compared during the afternoon, when I have the sensation that I am loosing my time !!

The other tip for improving academic skills is to plan everything the eve or couple of days before. This method is very useful to manage your work and all the tasks that you have to do.. Even though, I have some troubles with this kind of managment with myself, I always try to plan when I will do this or that thing for the next couple of days !!

Research Paper:
1. Do you think your writing has improved overall by doing this paper ? Explain.

Well, of course my english has improve a lot !! I am very happy and quite proud of me, because I really see the evolution in my writting, and I'm sure it will help me for my future studies.

2. What are some of the skills you improved in while doing the paper ?

Many skills ! First of all, the research in itself was a real learning, and trought the "research time", my ability to search and focus on my main ideas evolved ! As the 1st question, my writting has really improved, leading the work easier to do.

3. How do you feel about your paper ?

I think that my paper wasn't too bad, simply because I was interested in it ! Usually, when you are interested in something, you are able to do some good things, and I think I did it !

Presentations:
1. Did you enjoy listening to the presentations ?

Well, it was very interesting to listen others, and especially to see how many different topics people choose, which really shows that all the tastes of topics are different.

2. What did you learn about presentation techniques while listening to them ?

A lot ! I mean, each presentation technique is different, depending of the country, the culture, the personality of the speaker.. Also, the utilisation of Power Point was a big help for some people, even if it was a trick sometimes, pushing the speaker to read his/her screen, avoiding the presence of the audience..

3. What did you learn during the process of preparing for your presentations ?

To be honest, I couldn't say that I leant a lot, simply because it's not the 1st one presentation. In fact, in this level, the real advantage is the amount of presentations that we make, leading us more confidence and comfortable in oral.

4. Were you satisfied with you own presentation ?

Well, I think I did well even if I made some mistakes, the overall was not too bad. If I could critic myself, I would say that the fact to go over my notes, and to make more explainations during my presentation that there is on my paper drove me crazy, because I had some trouble to focus on my speech after that, being scared to go out from the topic !!!

ABOUT POPULATION...

The population growth is a real problem actually, and a lot of people don't think about that. In fact, the population is still growing, and in some countries, the governments don't succeed to manage it. In China, for instance, government has instaured the "one child policy", letting to the country to be able to breath !! Because of the big amount of population, some pessimistic people talk about the "over crowded", leading some problems in te world, such as famine.. In Africa too, where the desease of HIV AIDS is a real real problem !! In this continent, the popultation keep growing but the middle age has desappear because of the desease, letting the place for young people and few eldery people saved from the AIDS...

Paradoxally to this growth, some country are decreasing in population, having a old population and few children.. For my country, France, with a population of about 60 million of inhabitants, I don't think that we are really concernered about this problem of population growth, inside the country .. I mean that in my country, they should encourage people to have children instead of preventing them.. This unit was very interesting and especially one idea during the video, which was that nowadays in some of the countries, governments keep focusing on the fact to protect ourself with all the contraception staff (and spend a lot of money for it ), instead of encourage people to have children..

POPULATION
1. My grandparents have 9 children. Actually, from my father's side there is only him (he is a unique child), and from my mother's side, they are 8, including my mom. About my family, we are 3 children: me, my young brother, and my sister, who is the youngest in our family. For my part, I would like to have 2 or 3 children like my parents did, in order to keep the family going !
2. France population is about 61,528 inhabitans, and including the "DOM-TOM", which are the Islands such as Guadeloupe, Guyana, La Reunion, and La Martinique, belonging to France, the population is about 64,100 people.
The french population is not as big as others like China or other big counrties, but has a real impact among the European countries. The quality of life, with the Euro, has really increased, and on the other hand, the incomes didn't. So France stays really expensive, and especially for people who use to pay in dollars, leading to a waist of market slices..
3. The earth's population is around 6.7 billion ..
4. Nowadays the population of animal species is regulate or control thanks to the reserves or different parks which are used to preserve the species from extinction.. Or also, some laws have been voted to limit the hunting during the years giving a chance to animals to reproduce ..
I think that these kind of methods could not be taken for human, simply because human being is unpredictable ! Nobody can control humans..
5. Governments can not control population growth too much.. Some actions have been taken in China, for instance, encouraging people to have only one child because of the huge amount of the population in this counrty.. Except that, nothing can really been made by governments..

LA CHOUCROUTE

“La choucroute” is very famous in France and especially in the North France, nearby
Germany. Actually, the word “choucroute” comes from the German language, sürkrüt ( I
don’t know how to pronounce !!), which means the acid cabbage . The cabbage is grated
and mixed with small pieces of meat, including sausages, ham, and also some vegetables like potatoes. In fact, this meal looks like a big stack of white cabbage with a mountain of meat pieces with a particular smell..
Usually, people use to eat that, during the very cold days in France and especially in the
north, like I “Strasbourg” , a very cold city in order to get warm and defeat the cold temperature... There are not some special days to eat a plate of choucroute, but for the meat fanatics, taste it, and you will love it !!
"AS RELIGIOUS STIFE GROWS, EUROPE'S ATHEISTS SEIZE PULPIT" from the Wall Street Journal...

According to Michel Onfray, a famous French philosopher, a new phenomenom is happening in Europe, called the Atheism. Actually, this new phenomenom is growing very fast, leaving Europe's churches mostly empty.
In fact, the religion has become a real problem in the society, because of the anxiety over Europe's growing and restive Muslim populations and also, a fear that faith is reasserting itself in politics and public policy. This is why, Europe is stuggling between belief and nonbelief, involving a battle to define the identity of a continent.
Europe's atheist campagners have also made a splash in America, leading to some antireligious treatise, such as "God is not great : How religion poisons everything", written by Christopher Hitchens, a British atheist....

This article, is very complex, because it's difficult to talk about religions, knowing that each person has his own conviction. But it's true, that more and more, the world has been touched by a new kind of belief, which is the atheism !! The atheism is not considered as a religion, but as the fact to do not beleive on god !! It's become a kind of problem, especially in Europe, because more and more people, choose this new phenomenon and make some campaigns in order to promote their ideas, criticizing the other religions !

So, this is "La Defense" ,the business district in Paris .. As you can see, this part of Paris looks like a small part o Manhattan in NYC..
In this district, you can find the most famous companies like EDF, which is the electricity company in France, like Hydro Quebec here, in Montreal ..

The World Trade Center, which have been distroyed the 9/11/2001.. designed by Minoru Yamasaki.

The twin towers, with 110 floors rising 1,353 feet, ... (are) the tallest in the world. From observation decks at the top of the towers it...(is) possible to see 45 miles in every direction....One distinct advantage of the project's enormity is the architectural opportunity to advance the art of building.

We miss them... because they were a real sign of American power !!

This is the Eiffel tower in Paris (my hometown !!)
I don't really know if we can considered this tower as a skyscraper even though..
Anyway, the tower project was a bold extension of this principle up to a height of 300 metres - equivalent to the symbolic figure of 1000 feet. On September 18th, 1884 Eiffel registered a patent "for a new configuration allowing the construction of metal supports and pylons capable of exceeding a height of 300 metres".
So it's maybe enough high to be a skyscraper, isn't it ?
